MEETING HELD AT:
Round Table Pizza, 2129 Morrill Ave. San Jose, CA 95132-1130;  408-263-8900
(GPS N 37.41446; W -121.87339)

PRESIDENT’S GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Terry was stuck at a work function and didn’t make this month’s meeting.
Lyle opened the meeting at approximately 7:30pm and welcomed everyone to the May meeting.

Annual Dues are now due:  Pay up !
$60/year of which $15 is for the club, and $45 is for Off-Road organizations to be
decided at next month’s meeting.

New Guests:
A new guest attended named Glen, who is a friend of a friend, of a friend of Gary and Tom.
He drives a beautiful dark blue 2005 SWB Rubicon.  This thing looks sweet!  Flat fenders, long arm lift, bead locks, full of eye candy and boy does it shine!  Anyway it seems Glen is a veteran wheeler and has done the Con’ among other trials.

Another new guest was Sam, who came in a little late so we didn’t get to hear from him
on his wheeling and rig.  Maybe next time.

ELECTION WAS HELD FOR NEW OFFICERS FOR FY08/09

Here they are folks, your OFFICERS FOR 2008/2009!
Results from one vote, for all nominations at once:

• Terry for President,  unanimous
• Brian for VP, unanimous
• Lyle for Treasurer, unanimous
• Mario for Secretary  almost unanimous
(Hey, how can that be?)

VEHICLE PAINS AND PROJECTS:

• Paul E -
Drove his XJ Cherokee to the Adopt A Trail run only to have a noise develop in his
D35 rear end at the start of the trail.  Turned out to be a bad pinion bearing, and had
it towed all the way home.  Had it fixed with new bearings, ring and pinion gears, done!

• Mario -
Lost an air connection to his front ARB, it seemed the brass doo-hickey was only
hand tight where the blue ARB air-line enters the front axle.  Check those nuts and bolts!

• Aaron -
Has his CJ up and running with new axles!  Still working out the little stuff, but it’s on the road!

• Brian -
Lost his front fender flare on his JK on Slick Rock… :-)  seems the flare had been
previously “pre-conditioned” at Moab.  So when a tree limb snagged it on the trail,
it tore off. Easy fix by replacing with tube fenders!

• Gary -
Bought a new (to him) 1956 CJ3B from Brian.  Gary now has a new project!

• WINCHING WORKSHOP- SUNDAY, JUNE 29 - NEW
To be conducted at Hoiilster Hills, Meet at the obsticle area at 10AM.
More info under Future Runs -

PAST RUNS AND CHANCES TO LOCK AXLES:

Hollister Hills –
Gary, Alicia, Tom, and a few others showed up.  Gary and Alicia were on their way out
when they came upon a flop over.  Seems some teens in a 1500K Chev turned it over out
on the trail.  Alicia went into action and provided emergency First Aid to the kids.

Snow Run -
was cancelled this year due to busy schedules, work, and a other commitments by many of the members.

Moab –
Lots of history was made there, lots of good times.  Mark your calendar for next year, leave
April 19th 2009.  same dates as 2008.  Reservations at the Archview will start to be taken on August 9, 2008, for 2009.   Lyle will call in reservations on that day.

Ran into two dust storms across Nevada and Utah on the way there.  It was awful, dust and salt was all over everything from the 45-50 mph crosswinds.

Moab is amazing…incredible scenery.  Dave from the local Red Rock Wheelers guided the group most days.

Monday we ran Little Lions Back, went past the original Lion’s Back which is presently closed due to the death of the person who had the land leased from the BLM.  The family is trying to figure out what to do with it.  We then ran Fins and Things.  That was a fun ride!

Tuesday the group did Cliff Hanger.

Wednesday was Top of the World, Rose Garden, and one other I think.

Thursday was Poison Spider and Golden Spike.

Friday was spent at Arches National Park.  Lyle got a fix it ticket for bead locks, and no flaps…

Saturday was a return day for those who were still there.

Adopt A Trail –
We had a small turn out (5) this time around, very surprising compared to a few years ago when we had approximately 20 rigs. This time the group started with Terry, Gary, Brian Aaron and Mario.

We left Tracy and headed for Angles Camp in hopes of finding a full parking lot of wheelers…. but there was no one there… :-(

From there we drove up to Arnold in hopes of finding a parking lot full of wheelers, but there was no one there… :-(

From there we drove up to the trailhead in hopes of finding a parking lot full of wheelers, but there was no one there… :-(

So we started up the trail and about half way up there while working on draining the large puddle that builds up every year,  we heard some chatter on the CB coming from the trail head.  It was Rich, Paul, and Tony to the rescue!  Yea, more buddies finally did make it.  Seems they were caught behind a turned over big rig on 580/205 so they were delayed about an hour.

We also moved some logs to block an illegal access to a camp site near the river.  The trail is in good shape, and it shows how much work we’ve don’t there over the years.  The trail is clean, well maintained, and a really beautiful place to visit.  Everyone who has ever worked on the trail should be proud of how nice and well kept that trail is.  We have really made a difference.

FUTURE RUNS:

JUNE 21 – BARNEY RILEY – Near Markleeville…hot springs, party!  Bring your Speedo… or not.  Chris suggested this run (I think).  Chris do you have more info on this trail?  Trail description, location, activities when there.  Send it in buddy!

JUNE 29 - SUNDAY - WINCHING WORKSHOP   NEW   NEW   NEW   NEW
To be conducted at Hoiilster Hills, Obstical area at 10AM.  Joe M was volunteered to conduct a winching workshop since it is assumed he has the most experience with winching exercises.

JULY 26 - BBQ Run
This year our annual BBQ run will be at Cisco Grove near Truckee.  Signal Peak and Fordyce trials are there. Friday play-day on Foryce then Saturday on Singal Peak!

AUGUST 21-23 – The Rubicon !
I think we decided to run it the normal way again this year, as opposed to the Norcibur way. Start at Loon Lake, camp at Buck’s Lake (within 20 feet of the road centerline).  Terry will have more info to come and lead this effort.

Need proposals for more runs later in the summer!  Get them in!

• Next Meeting June 10, 2008

• Meeting Adjourned At 8:30pm.
