President’s General Announcements - Opening Greeting and Welcome:
Terry opened the meeting at approximately 7:25pm and welcomed everyone to the March (already) meeting.
New Guests:
A guest was expected by Terry, but was a no show.
Consumer Reports:
A small discussion broke out about a report from Consumer Reports for the 08 model year’s worst vehicle. Apparently the JK was voted as one of the worst vehicles according to their infinite wisdom (my comment). Worst in comfort, drivability, and road manners. They never did even mention that it was specifically designed as an off road vehicle, or its real capabilities. Also included in the top 11 worst were the Toyota FJ, the H-3 Hummer, and other Jeep vehicles.
Vehicle Pains and Projects:
Trevor has a 4 inch exhaust on his diesel or Yota???
Replaced the clutch on his Yota.
Terry fixed his compressor on the TJ.
Ken scratched one of his wheels on Terry Trot.
And I refilled my CO 2 tank.
Other News:
Randy’s CJ is for sale, with extras or without. Asking price is $7K with extras and $6K without the extras. Contact Randy if interested.
Nomination for Officers for FY08-09 at next meeting. Nominations for Club Officers for next year will be at the next meeting in April. Voting will take place at the May meeting will take place and the new officers take charge on June 1. Alicia notified everyone that due to work pressures, she will not seek re-election for next year, and will NOT accept a nomination if presented with one.
New Member Vote:
Ken (TRD FJ) was voted in as the newest member of the club. Congratulations Ken!
Cow Bell:
There were no nominations for the cow bell from the Terry Trot run this past month. The only miss-hap on Terry Trot was a broken shock mount on a guest’s flat black Yota P/U that participated.
Past Runs and Chances to Lock Axles
TERRY TROT Friday, Feb 15 – Mario arrived at the caravan meeting point, the John "Chuck" Erreca rest stop at 8:30AM. The parking lot was empty, and stayed that way for the 15 minutes I stood around waiting for someone to show up. No one did, so I proceeded to Wasco where I gassed up.
By the way, they have REAL NICE gas stations in Wasco, I think much better, faster, newer than the Flying J. But they do not have CB stuff as does the Flying J in Bakersfield. I caravanned alone and I do have to say, I think it was one of the best caravans I’ve ever been in… :-) I arrived in Ridgecrest at 2:30pm! Way too early.
TERRY TROT Saturday, Feb 16 – The group met at 8AM across the street of the Econo-Lodge Motel in Ridgecrest (where many were staying). There was a drivers meeting at that time, then we traveled to Trona, up the mountains over the pass, and into Fish Canyon. Terry finally found Fr. Fish’s gravesite. Upon exiting Fish Canyon and dropping into Panamint Valley, we could see some activity on the other side of the valley. Apparently a number of rigs had attempted to cross the dry lake, and got stuck in the mud. The lake was not that dry… And it looked like the Ranger found them. We then traveled the road on the west side of the dry lake bed to Ballarat. From there, our group continued to Jail Canyon, I left the group and drove to the Panamint Springs Resort for a cocktail. It was real tasty and enjoyable as the whole wide world (www) drove by on the highway. I then drove back to Ridgecrest for the evening.
TERRY TROT Sunday, Feb 17 – We again met across the street from the Ridgecrest Econo-Lodge at 8:00am however some folks didn’t show up until nearly 8:30am and were late. Then they proceeded to drive up to the front of the line, and begin a search of their vehicle for some reason, as everyone else waited for them. Finally once everyone was attentive, we had our second day’s driver’s meeting. From there we traveled to Panamint Valley, and up to the Charcoal Kilns. Suffice to say, that it turned into a snow fest at that point… :-) From there we drove to Tucki Mine.
TERRY TROT Monday, Feb 18 – This was an optional day, or a return day for some. The group hit Titus Canyon then went to Darwin Falls. Darwin has a lots of water. Terry and Peggy then drove to Reno where Terry was able to win enough to cover the trip! I left Beatty and the group that morning and drove into Death Valley, which was in FULL BLOOM. The pictures I posted really didn’t do it proper justice. It was spectacular as I drove into Death Valley on HWY190, from Daylight Pass Rd/Beatty. You can read the Trip Reports that were emailed out with all the details.
